About City

Kuala Lumpur, also known as KL, is the  conventional, legislative, and judicial capital of Malaysia. It's officially known as the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur( Malay Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur). As of 2020, it had a  tale population of, making it one of the Asian  metropolises with the  topmost population growth. It's also the largest  megacity in Malaysia, with a total size of 243 km2( 94 sq mi).( 8) Greater Kuala Lumpur,  generally appertained to as the Klang Valley, is a7.564 million- person metropolitan agglomeration as of 2018.( 4) In Southeast Asia, it's one of the civic areas with the fastest population and  profitable growth rates.

The city serves as Malaysia's political, social, and financial hub. It also houses the Istana Negara, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's official residence, and the Malaysian Parliament (monarch of Malaysia). Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 to serve the local tin mines, and from 1880 to 1978 it served as Selangor's capital. The executive and judicial arms of the Malaysian federal government were housed in Kuala Lumpur until they were moved there in early 1999. Kuala Lumpur served as the capital of the Federation of Malaya and its successor, Malaysia. Some political organisations, though, are still based in Kuala Lumpur.

The sixth-most visited city in the world in 2019 is Kuala Lumpur, one of the top tourist and shopping destinations in the world. Three of the 10 largest shopping malls in the world are located in the city. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's World Liveability Index, Kuala Lumpur is ranked 70th overall and second in Southeast Asia, while it is ranked ninth in ASPAC and second in Southeast Asia according to KPMG's Leading Technology Innovation Hub 2021. The UNESCO designated Kuala Lumpur as the 2020 World Book Capital.

In Malay, Kuala Lumpur is referred to as the "muddy confluence" since lumpur is the Malay word for "mud" and kuala refers to the meeting of two rivers or an estuary. According to one theory, it was named from Sungai Lumpur, which means "muddy river"; in the 1820s, a town called Sungei Lumpoor was thought to be the most significant tin-producing settlement up the Klang River. This derivation, however, does not take into consideration the fact that Kuala Lumpur is located at the meeting point of the Gombak River and the Klang River, and as a result, it should actually be called Kuala Gombak since kualas are usually named after the river that connects a larger river or the sea.
